The £5 Lottery Club is helping to fund exciting projects for young people on our island.

Action for Children are doing significant work with Guernsey’s young people. Their project offers a wide range of support, skills and education for improving lifestyles, parenting skills, developing citizenship skills, gaining confidence, and continuing education or entering the work place. The project also provides housing, accommodation support and drug and alcohol support.

Funding from The £5 Lottery Club is being used by Action for Children for their new project supporting young and vulnerable mums.

“Our young mums Ed-Excel course aims to:

  • Provide practical advice and guidance to help increase skills in the care of a child.
  • Enable access to antenatal care and advice.
  • Provide Training designed to address specific needs and concerns for example; breastfeeding, sexual health, contraception.
  • Include Health Education with regard to diet, smoking, drugs, alcohol etc.
  • Help with Numeracy, ICT and Communication skills. Tuition is designed for those who have not achieved in these areas.
  • Provide a means of bringing together isolated pregnant teenagers.
  • Integrate confidence and self-esteem building tasks and assignments.
